The 14th amendment states:
"All
persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the
jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state
wherein they reside."
so language like that is pretty clear for most to understand , you born here you live and vote here as a citizen no questions asked!.....but that whole "to the jurisdiction thereof" is a very tricky part that the so called legal "smart" people trump says he has are mulling over . just to give you an example, if a foreign diplomat is here in the united states and happens to have a baby is the baby American or a citizen of the diplomats country? they are in fact not American because they are "subject to the jurisdiction thereof " which to the best of my non expert opinion means another country does have dominion over the diplomats baby thus it is a citizen of that country not the US. so Trumps people are arguing that perhaps they can use this loop hole to kick out all of the illegal immigrants in the united states.
another thing that alot of people take for granted about citizenship is that it is not directly guaranteed by constitution but rather by a statute , so thats why our somoa friends have no citizenship, seriously it sucks for em come financial aid time.
i cant really come to a conclusion on how i feel about trumps proposal to change the 14th amendment but i am glad i learned that YES it is possible to change the amendment. its going to take alot of work alot of votes and i seriously doubt it will happen or that federal agents will kick doors down and drag entire families over the border. cant believe i learned this , glad you learned it with me.
